The Way Things Should Be Not How They Are

Tuesday September 16, 1997

After spending 18 years in this industry, first with a Company, then as an Adjuster and now as a Broker, I have seen everyone including the consumer be unreasonable. What we have to realize is that insurance deals with almost every problem that can occur in our every day lives, so like life there are going to be unpleasant situations.

Most of the complaints revolve around repairs and not the actual policy contract. Therefore it is very important for the consumer to understand that they are the only ones who can actually pick and hire the contractor.

The insurance companies only say in the matter is the cost and the contractor is actually working for you not them. Secondly do not let things get carried away.. Consult your Broker and expect them to intervene since he is being paid to service your account and they are the 3rd name on your policy contract.

Brefni's Responce

Utilizing contractors who provide low quotes for shoddy and dangerous work has evolved as a way for insurance companies to control costs. By controlling costs in this way compnies can justify claims payments that deprive consumers of the right to hire reputable and responsible contractors.

What you have described is the way things should be not how they are.
