DECENT people who make honest mistakes

Wednesday April 7, 1999

Recently, I caused a minor fender-bender, when I backed into someone in a parking lot. There was no damage to either my car or the car I backed into. Yet, the people who owned the other car felt it necessary to go through the insurance co. just to earn a buck...They claimed they were injured.

I am SO OUTRAGED that the insurance co. doesn't even require these people to go to a doctor to PROVE that they were actually injured! I am DISGUSTED and APPALLED that my insurance co. will just give money away to anyone who CLAIMS they were hurt in such a minor incident.
The way this system works is an absolute travesty...SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE to protect the DECENT people who make honest mistakes!!!

Brefni's Response

We have a system of no fault insurasnce in Ontario. If you are involved in anaccident you claim from your insurance and the other party claims from their's.

You can sue for significant damages but not minor. This sort of a system avoids the problem you are having but I'm not sure which is the better way of doing things.

Needless to say both parties end up with claims on their insurance records, increased premiums, and possible loss of coverage.
