Problems experienced by a resident of Pakistan trying to collect on a Commercial Union life insurance policy

Commercial Union and General Accident merged in the summer of 1998

Insurance consumers often write to the Commercial Union Consumers' Forum for help in solving insurance problems that they have not been able to resolve through their agent or insurance company. Such problems, when they are forwarded to these companies from CUCF are often given attention at the highest level and in fortunate cases quickly resolved.

Below is some correspondance detailing one person's experience making a life insurance claim against Commercial Union. After six months, the claim just happened to be resolved within days of being brought to Commercial Union's attention by Commercial Union Consumers' Forum.

To Whom It May Concern,

My Mother passed away six months ago. She was insured with your company. I was told that because I am no longer living in Canada, that an investigation is to be held. This investigation had started long ago and your company (C.U. Life). Still hasn't contacted me. If I am sending mail to the proper location, then please mail me back so that I can send you some more details and keep in contact. What I mainly need is the adjustors name.

Thank You Kindly,

Ali Mawji

Dear Brefni Shuttleworth,

Your kindness is much appreciated. Especially at times like this! What exactly is your forum about? It sounds interesting and might actually be helpful for me since I really don't know too much about insurance. Again, I'm ever greatful for your help.

Ali Mawji.

Dear Sir,

I'd like to thank you for helping me out. You asked to find out about the results of my claim and here they are:

>Your e-mail message has been referred to us by Brefni Shuttleworth who is
>not affiliated with Commercial Union. In the case of an out of Canada
>claim, we need to verify the documents, which is the reason for the
>unfortunate delay. We received confirmation on June 15, and have approved
>the claim. Our cheque will be sent to you this week.
>If you need to contact us please do so at the following e-mail address:
>Culife@compuserve.com
>Thank you,
>Helen Wylde VP Administration

I don't know exactly when this will reach or how much of it will reach but I guess I'll wait and find out.

Thanks again!

Ali
