This information is partly derived from a May 23, 1998 article in the Globe and Mail.
.....It is reported that Mr. Justice Maurice Cullity in a mid April written decision found that Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada's chief actuary, Robert Sharkey while testifying as a witness for the Toronto based insurer in a 1995 Ontario Court General Division case gave fraudulent evidence.
.....The Justice is reported to have denied Sun Life's request to allow Mr.Sharkey to "clarify" his earlier evidence. The report does not indicate whether any action will be taken against Mr.Sharkey for giving fraudulent evidence or to what extent if any this fraudulent evidence contributed to Sun Life winning the 1995 case.
.....It is not known what effect this and other scandals will have on Sun Life's plans to become a publicly traded company, a process kown as demutualization.
